Singing in America

With my Mexican voice I sing in America

I sing songs from where I was born

Songs that tell the stories of good people

Working and loving hard

While dancing and have fun

I sing song of peace but no one understands them

Maybe we could communicate

beyond language

with a hug or a smile

I didn't come here to hurt you

I felt trapped so I escaped

my soul couldn't see the lines they painted

It's not so different here

The trees cheer you up and give shade to our kids

No matter where you are

your family is your treasure

if we teach them the songs of love

they will sing wherever they go

And they will go far if they learn to understand them.
